Rounding up the millions (estimated to be between 11 to ?
million) of illegal immigrant aliens in the US of A. Progress is being made,
but at this rate, how long will it take?
This article from
Michelle Malkin of April 2006 quotes reports from the Dept of Homeland Security
recapping how many worksite raids and intents to fine employers using aliens
have been performed since 1992.
Startling facts.
Some of the latest news about immigration raids at
businesses.
IFCO Systems in at least eight
states nabbed 1200 hundred.
April 2006
AML International fish processing
plant resulted in 13
apprehensive, 2005
Southern California raids net 410
illegals. June 2004.
The Swift Meat Processing plants
netted over 1200
aliens. December 2006
In southern California this
month. Raids apprehended 338 illegal immigrants had been arrested at their
homes, and Another 423 were taken into federal custody at county jails.
In Operation Return to Sender," a crackdown that
has resulted in 13,000
arrests nationwide since June. 2006.
“The operation targets those illegal immigrants who hide after skipping
their voluntary deportation proceedings and criminals who have re-entered the
United States after being previously deported for crimes in the U.S.” ”It's an uphill battle. Despite ongoing
efforts, officials estimate that about 600,000 illegal immigrants who have
ignored deportation orders are still at large, Kice said.” "Foreign
nationals who flout our laws and commit crimes against our citizens should be
on notice that there are consequences," said Julie L. Myers, an ICE
assistant secretary. "ICE will use all of the tools at its disposal to
find you and send you home."
Worksite Enforcement. “In FY04, ICE
initiated 460 investigations; there were 79 indictments and 87 convictions.
These numbers increased in FY05 to 502 investigations, 186 indictments and 160
convictions, and in FY06 (as of August 22) there were 1,097 investigations, 184
indictments and 177 convictions.”
Identity and Benefit Fraud.
“In
FY05, ICE initiated 3,512 investigations, executed 1,430 arrests, 1,077
indictments and 1,151 convictions. In FY06 (through July), ICE initiated 2,902
investigations, executed 1,064 arrests, 732 indictments and 771 convictions.”
Detention and Removal. “The number
of Expedited Removals with ICE detention was 31,839 in FY05 and is already
42,183 in FY06 (through August 20).”
Human Smuggling and Trafficking. “In
FY05, ICE efforts resulted in 3,125 human smuggling and trafficking
investigations, 2,483 arrests, 1,442 indictments and 1,283 convictions. In FY06
(through July 31), ICE efforts initiated 2,330 human smuggling and trafficking
investigations, 2,272 arrests, 1,008 indictments and 1,010 convictions.”
“ICE removed
more than 186,600 illegal aliens from the country in FY 2006, a record for the
agency and a ten percent increase over the number of removals during the prior
fiscal year.”
Although these accomplishments are encouraging, and there
appears that there is a real effort being made to enforce the laws, to find the
violators, the criminals, the aliens here in the US illegally bringing in
drugs, human smuggling and working without documentation (illegally), just how
long will it take to complete the round up of the purported tens of millions
estimated illegal aliens currently in America?
186,600 removed in 2006. An
estimated 12,000,000 in the country.
Let’s put some math to it. Using
the same rate as last year, and factor in a 10% increase over the previous
year, then in the year 2045, they will all be rounded up and deported,
considering that no more are allowed to cross over illegally. 38 years to round up and deport 12,000,000
aliens at the current rate. That is,
after the wall has been built and they immediately catch and deport any and all
making the effort, no ifs ands or buts.
Even if you consider a fear factor that they might get
caught and deported, do you really think it will have any effect of reducing
the numbers to any great degree before ICE has time to find, catch and
deport? Would this fear factor keep
them from trying?
Do you think the problem of illegal aliens living, working
and hiding out in the US has become unmanageable? The President has proposed a comprehensive plan which includes
amnesty of some sort. The democrats
appear to want them all amnestized, handing out voter registration cards as
they cross over. The republicans are split, some lawmakers within the party,
favor a kindness approach to the illegals similar to amnesty, and some are
downright against any kind of forgiveness (amnesty) for those who have entered
the US illegally. What can be done?
Tomorrow, I’ll present one man’s opinion.
